I have a dream. I dream of a day when the women in my country would walk freely on the street without any fear on her mind. Every day when she walks on the streets, a dozen of perverted eyes stare her. They scan her like a scanner machine from top to bottom. Such is the pathetic state of women in my country. The politicians and the leaders talk big when it comes to woman security and safety, but the words still needs to be translated into actions. Any one can deliver great speeches but what matters is how they execute the plan! An incident occurred 3 years ago where a group of fiends brutally raped a medical student. The news got so much mileage that even the international media started talking about it. A sea of people came out in numbers to protest against the heinous crime, a crime that shook the nation. That was just one news that we all are aware about because of media. Then one day every thing gets back to normal and people get back to their work. As per a study, around 92 women across different age groups are raped every day in our country. That’s a sad state indeed! But there should be a solution to such problems. And unfortunately such problems are like seeds. It grows into a tree, you cut the tree and the seeds are taken away by the winds and another tree is grown somewhere. How many trees would you cut? Its high time we need to highlight this issue. A lot has been said about women security in our country of billion. Its the same country where mouthing bad words related to females is considered as a great sign of masculinity. We are following a progressive model and such exploitation’s and issues are major hindrances. It can cause great disgrace to a nation. But irony is that all such crimes on woman happen in a country where women are worshiped as goddesses. There are many goddesses in our country such as Parvati, Lakshmi, Saraswati to name few and we all respect them. Of course if one respects and obeys them, then they should be holding the same respect for women in our country. We should learn to value her dreams. She has big dreams on her eyes and we should not let her dreams get nipped in the bud.
Violence against women should be stopped immediately. Here if a bride doesn’t gets dowry to the groom’s family, then it is considered as a shame. Such mindsets affect our nation as we are rapidly developing. A large number of dowry deaths happen in India. But such things only reminds us that we are still stuck in the 18th century India. She is harassed and tortured and she faces all kind of domestic violence at home. Acid attacks are being carried out in many parts of our country to take revenge against the woman. My heart melts whenever I hear the story of such victims. What wrong has she done to face the wrath of such mischief mongers? Of course, her entire career and dreams gets destroyed because of such acts. It is this country where a son is sent to school and a daughter is asked to stay back at home and assist her mother in her household work. Why such a bias? We talk big about gender equality and rating men and women on an equal scale. Empowerment starts at house. As parents, one should treat all their children equally – be it girl or a boy! Every one has the right to education. And one of the root cause of major atrocities and crimes against women are illiteracy. People should be educated and taught about importance of women. In our country there are certain families that give importance to the society. They think about the society first and then about their loved ones. Let the society do anything they want. Its its duty to ruin things. Its our country where a girls feelings and opinions are given least importance. She cannot like a man from another religion or community. If she does then she is killed in the name of honor killing. A girl child is seen as a disgrace to the family and hence in some rural regions they are killed as soon as they are born. Physical abuse, Sexual Harassment, Incest, Sati, Dowry Deaths, Honor killing, Female Infanticide, Forced abortion, Rape, Molestation, Forced marriage, Human Trafficking are few of the crimes against woman. If you think that such crimes against woman happen only in India then you are wrong. Such things do happen in the western world too! It’s just that those news never get much attention that they deserve to get. And how could you forget Taliban where they think that a woman doesn’t deserve to live. Even your mother, sister, wife and daughter is a woman; don’t you love them?
She is not an object that you would play with her and destroy her. Even she has a heart and even her heart is composed of feelings and emotions. Even she has big dreams on her eyes. Strive hard to color her dreams. Don’t crush her dreams. A woman is an asset to the country. Do not ill treat her. Respect her and her feelings. Men, do remember that you lived in a woman’s womb when you were an embryo. From an embryonic stage you developed into a strong baby and saw the first light all because of a woman. If you can’t respect her at least don’t trouble a woman. She is not a caged bird. Lets not treat her like a caged animal. Do not arrest her dreams in the cage. Set her free. Open the cage and let her fly – fly high! But the ultimate solution to the various crimes against women is to find a solution at the first place. Bring in tough laws for crimes such as Rapes and Murders. Respect a woman! Uncage her and her dreams! And yes when will the day comes when woman of my country would walk freely on the streets without any kind of fear! Be bold, be strong, be brave!

You've written such a powerful and emotional article. At times I was irate with the way the women are treated and seconds later I had tears in my eyes. Seldom does a blog post reduce me to tears. It is such a shame and so sad that in the year 2015, women/females are still regarded with such little respect and care. I am so sorry. The statistics on the number of women raped per day blew my mind. Is it even safe to report the rape to the authorities? Do the police do anything to capture or prosecute the men who commit such heinous crimes. Your words truly moved me. I want to make stand against the violence. What happens to women who stand up for women's rights? This is truly a sad and disturbing situation. My heart goes out.
very well written article! Kudos!
