A good Sanitation – need of the hour

Toilet for Babli – An initiative by Domex – http://www.domex.in/.

A lot has been said about cleanliness and hygiene in our country. India is stepping towards a bright future. Having said that we have set our foot in Mars and we are racing towards glory, we also need to highlight and talk about certain issues that surely might be trivial for some sect of people but important and significant for many. India is predominantly a developing country and every developing nation has its own problems and issues that they need to cope up with. Hygiene is directly proportional to health of an individual. A larger group of people in our country live below the poverty line. Slums and different settlements along the road sides make these people go merry! But one thing here! We need to focus on several issues that affect such people. Personal hygiene is essential for a healthy living. Defecating in open is something not amusing! Why do people go and relieve near the railway tracks and open areas? Something to think about? Huh?!

That’s because they don’t have access to quality living and lack of hygiene amenities are the reasons that attribute to poor health quality. They need to be given adequate facilities. Defecating in open is okay for men. I’ve seen men defecating near railway tracks, grinning and flaunting, like a shameless! Just like the Train passengers are some audience of a PVR and the defecators are ShahRukh’s! Some see it as an affront to personal dignity. It doesn’t seems nice to talk all this but we need to ponder over many things. Have you ever thought about women?  Women are the most impacted because of the lack of sanitation facilities in our country. A toilet for women should be a mandate in every village. A woman should be respected and treated well. Sometimes they face major health issues and sometimes it just embarrasses them. There are various ill effects of unhygienic practices. Over 597 million people in India practice open defecation. This is the highest for any nation and with we shouldn’t be proud of such a statistic. Lack of sanitation is a major cause of illness in poor people living in substandard conditions. They are vulnerable to diseases such as diarrhea, intestinal infections, typhoid, cholera etc. We should pay heed to this. It is said that Open defecation is the primary reason for most diarrhea deaths in our nation. So naturally to silence this killer, efforts and appropriate actions should be taken from the root level. I know a girl called Babli who too faces similar issues. She is young and talented. Our honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in a Children’s day interaction session with few kids, stated that he plans to build toilets for girls. That’s a kind gesture, Mr. Prime Minister and perhaps that’s the need of the hour. Let’s build a toilet for Babli and many Babli’s in our country who are living under extremely impoverished conditions.  This calls for an action.  By chipping in small steps we can make our country clean and healthy. The Toilet for Babli campaign is in search of a good hope, hygiene and good health.

Lets support Domex that has come up with this initiative of ‘Toilet for Babli’ to help Babli and several other Babli’s in India. It is turning out to be a long term solution  to provide sanitation that benefits people from rural areas. It has established a Toilet Academy that makes toilets accessible and affordable. They have been brand ambassadors  of sanitation and they have working to building  toilets in  rural areas. Lets put an end to open defecation. Lets do our bit to make our India clean!
