Epic College Love Stories – 1: Engineering Jitters

Part 1: The Many Shades of Love and Laughter – Epic College Love Stories

Everyone, at some point, has had an affair in life—whether with a job, a person, or something else entirely. Most of these affairs end when we get married, or in some cases, they persist even after that. If you marry the one you love, life might feel like a blissful dream. But when things don’t go according to plan, life can take a bizarre turn. You find yourself tied to a stranger, calling them your ‘life partner,’ while your past affairs linger in the shadows, wrapped in secrets.

This story, “Epic College Love Stories” follows the whimsical journey of a young engineer who falls in love with almost every beautiful girl he meets. His heart races for one girl, only to skip a beat for the next. This endless cycle continues until he gets married. It’s a whirlwind of love, romance, emotions, hurt, expectations, success, and sorrows. This tale dives deep into the successful and unsuccessful affairs of a man who loved girls more than he loved himself. And along the way, he plays a cameo in his friends’ lives, trying to help them in every way possible.

They ask, “Can love happen twice?”

I laugh and reply, “Why stop at twice? Love can happen a thousand times if you’re willing to open your heart and explore. The world is full of possibilities, and who knows? The next great love story could be just around the corner.”

Today marked the beginning of my final year in Engineering at Gurukul College—a place where discipline isn’t just expected; it’s demanded. Latecomers face fines, and trust me, they’re not shy about collecting them. All I wanted was to get out of this place as soon as possible and taste freedom. College felt more like a prison, and I was desperate to break free.

Being homesick, I commuted daily from home. My mother would pack lunch not just for me, but for my friends too. Mr. Nair, our Electronics professor, was the one teacher we all respected. He wasn’t just about teaching us the subject; he taught us values, teamwork, and the importance of time. But today, I wasn’t thinking about any of that. My heart was racing for a different reason.

Every student had to give an extemporaneous speech—just a little exercise to help us overcome our stage fright. But for someone like me, a village boy who’d never had the chance to speak in English, it was more like a nightmare. We Maharashtrians had a unique way of speaking English—one that often left others confused. And today, it was my turn to stand in front of the class and make a fool of myself.
